I went to a tech meet up on Thursday. After waking up at 6am and being in class until 5pm the last thing I wanted to do was attend a social gathering for another couple hours. When I got there, only about a third of those who RSVPed attended. The MeetUp when over the appointed time of 8:30 for almost an hour. I transferred to 7 train to return to Main Street. I had to walk home because the bus wasn’t showing up. When I got home, it was almost 11pm. However, I wasn’t tired I was energized and glad I attended. A lot of the talk I didn’t comprehend because of lack of knowledge and everyone there was a professional and employed; but, because of the smaller attendance, it gave me an opportunity to ask questions I had about the field I am about to invest in for the next approximately nine months or possibly more. I will try to relay best what I can the answers I received for the follow questions.
Where do you see tech going in 5 to 10 years? I believe that tech isn’t going away in the foreseeable future. While there seems to be an over saturation for boot camps lately, with multiple companies and now community college offering them there are going to be a lot of tech jobs in the future for now so boot camps can be a good place to start especially if you have no prior experience and also you can’t go wrong with a free boot camp.
How is the work life balance for someone employed in tech? While it isn’t unusual for a 9-5 job in the finance industry to end at after 7pm on a daily basis, a 9-5 job in tech usually means 9-5!

I see that you created a website what is something you don’t like about your website and would like to change about it? The website is too slow. If your website is too slow it isn’t as likely to be suggested by google’s search results. Webpages should be designed to be catered to the mobile platform that can run on a desktop not vice versa because a lot of people now browse the internet using tablets and mobile devices.
Overall, I feel that the tech community is generally pretty friendly and is willing to help when you reach out with questions making it different from other careers (maybe because there is a lot of jobs meaning less competition), also like Ms. Daisha mentioned, the beer is on tap!
