First Week Vestibule Reflection

3/15/18

The most difficult part of starting the Techhire program has been lack of sleep. The second day I honestly didn’t want to get up to go to class. Starting the program I was very anxious and couldn’t sleep on Sunday and have slept less than 15 hours the rest of this week. The Techhire program became the main priority my schedule has to revolve around. Once this program started, other responsibilities still exist so if take longer than expected, extra time needed is taken from sleep. The morning commute takes about a hour and a half, but gets treated as two just in case of traffic or delays so I can arrive on time. The commute back is a lot more congested and takes two hours and I also had to walk home twice because of the bus not arriving. Just between class time, commute, and time I spend studying and doing homework is a minimum of 16 hours.

While it has been a physically tiring week, I am still grateful that I am part of the program. Opportunities don’t always present themselves, and when they do sometimes they are passed over because of inconvenience. I started the program with zero coding experience and within the second day we started coding and made some basic shapes.

The next day I made a poorly drawn spaceship as a homework assignment with more complicated code.

I am happy to see the progress I have made within the past week. While anyone can learn coding themselves it is hard to self motivate and push yourself especially when your tired. Committing myself to a rigorous program will force me to really challenge myself. I can’t get wait to get some sleep this weekend. TGIF
